This master’s course deals with the fundamentals, development and application of methods and tools specifically for the focus on product development / construction technology in the field of mechanical engineering. In doing so, it makes important contributions to the further development of technology, to the sustainable development of the economy and society as well as to the development of future products.

The master’s program aims to impart the ability to apply the scientific methods of product development and to further develop them in selected areas. The special responsibility of the engineers with regard to quality, function, costs and sustainability of the products to be developed is taken into account.

  • Degree in the respective course or a course with very similar content

Admission with conditions

In the case of admission with conditions, you will be admitted, but you must catch up on certain examinations from the bachelor's degree before you register for the master's thesis. This can be the case, for example, if you completed your bachelor's degree at another university or a university of applied sciences and did not take seminars or modules there that you need for the master’s degree at the University of Stuttgart. The final decision as to whether your professional aptitude is recognized as sufficient is made by the admissions committee .

Graduated from a university of applied sciences

A degree from a university of applied sciences (formerly a university of applied sciences) or the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University basically entitles you to study for a master’s degree at a university, according to the State University Act.

Admission restriction (NC)

In master’s courses in which the number of study places is limited (Numerus Clausus (NC)), ranking lists are created for the allocation of study places based on the criteria that are a prerequisite for admission to the master’s course. The admission regulations for the relevant master’s degree program regulate further details.

The master’s program consists of four specialization modules, which expand the basic knowledge of product development and construction technology, and two specialization subjects. The method of product development specialization is compulsory. In the specialization group Applications in Construction Technology, there are many options to choose from, from applications in construction technology to agricultural technology and machine tools. In these specialization subjects, you will acquire in-depth technical and methodological skills and gain insight into relevant research and practical projects.

The master’s degree in mechanical engineering / product development and construction technology is designed for 4 semesters. It allows you to start your studies in both winter and summer semesters. It includes compulsory modules, modules with options, a study project, laboratory internships, an industrial internship and the final master's thesis.

The course comprises 120 CP in 4 semesters. The distribution is usually designed for 30 credit points per semester plus / minus ten percent. Depending on the choice, the students can come up with a different number of CPs / semester.
