Overview

An unimaginable amount of information is available to everyone at any time; technological development is progressing faster and faster. New technologies shape and change our behavior and way of life, conserve resources and multiply our possibilities. Electrical engineering and information technology are the most important key technologies for this.

The English-language master's degree in "Electrical Engineering" offers six specializations to choose from:

  • Smart Information Processing,
  • Communication Systems,
  • Nano- and optoelectronics,
  • Power-electronic Systems and Technologies,
  • Smart sensors,
  • Electromagnetics and Applications.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • A completed Bachelor’s degree of at least six semester’s length (or equivalent qualification)
  • Degree in the particular study program or a study program with very similar content
  • Other requirements may apply depending on the study program. Please refer to the Admission Regulations [de] for specific admissions criteria

Admission subject to requirements

While you are admitted to study, this form of admission is subject to making up specific undergraduate degree exams by the time you submit your Master’s thesis.. This might be because you earned you Bachelor’s at another university or university of applied science where you did not take seminars or modules that are required at the University of Stuttgart however. The Admissions Committee [de] makes the final decision on whether to recognize your academic fitness as acceptable.

Studies completed at a university for applied sciences

According to the State Higher Education Act, if you completed your studies at a university of applied sciences (formerly post-graduate technical college) or at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Dual University you will generally qualify for Master’s degree studies at a university.

Restricted admission (NC)

For Master’s study programs where the number of places is limited (Numerus Clausus (NC)), rank listings will be compiled for awarding places on the study program according to specific admission requirements for the Master’s study programs. More details can be found in the admission regulations pertaining to the relevant study program.

Specific study programs

Aside from an admission subject to requirements, there are other types of admission depending on the subject:

 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

In order to study you must show proof that you have advanced English skills of at least level C1. You will need either:

  • Recognized certificates (e.g. TOEFL ibt 95 points or IELTS Band 7)
    or
  • At least six semesters on a Bachelor’s study program in the English language.

 

CAREER PROSPECTS

 

Global employment opportunities are open to graduates, in research and development (R&D), the technical management or business sectors of industrial companies, or they may also continue on with a doctoral degree.

The opportunities are endless as further career prospects are opening up in fields such as Industry 4.0, autonomous driving, digitalization, artificial intelligence and the information society.
