Overview

Regardless of which means of transport we use ourselves, whether we order a book or a supermarket is delivered - efficient transport systems are a basic requirement of a modern society. Modern traffic systems should enable changes of location to be made quickly, safely and reliably.
Traffic engineers plan and operate these traffic systems. Based on an analysis of the spatial structure and mobility behavior, they design the transport offer. They forecast traffic demand as well as construction and operation costs.

The bachelor's degree in traffic engineering is an engineering degree in which advanced mathematics and technical mechanics are compulsory modules. There are also events on the basics of business administration and computer science.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 

The sum of the points achieved in the Abitur certificate is divided: for Abitur certificates with a maximum number of points of 900 points is divided by 30, for Abitur certificates with a maximum number of points of 840 points is divided by 28 (max. 30 points) .

Other selection criteria  (max. 5 points):

  • Completed professional training in a mathematical, scientific or technical training occupation or previous professional practice relevant to the course (even without completed training),
  • practical activities,
  • extracurricular achievements, e.g. prizes and awards.

Selection:
The scores from the school and other selection criteria are added (max. 35 points). A ranking list is created on the basis of the number of points determined in this way.

Since you, as a graduate of the bachelor's degree in traffic engineering, have a wide range of traffic-related skills, you will have a wide range of career prospects:

  • Transport companies and transport associations:
    Drafting of route networks, timetables and service plans as well as implementation of operations
  • Municipalities and districts:
    Planning and operation of the transport offer from the road, via bike and footpaths to the traffic lights and local public transport (ÖPNV)
  • State and federal authorities:
    planning, approval, construction and operation of traffic routes, creation of regulations
  • Consulting company:
    Creation of market and mobility studies, traffic development plans, traffic models, environmental impact analyzes, cost-benefit analyzes and much more - you can also work as a self-employed person
  • Software company:
    planning, design, programming and implementation of traffic software , data communication and web services
  • Vehicle and other industry:
    Development of new mobility, vehicle and drive concepts, traffic control systems and vehicle assistance systems
  • Mobility service
    providers : Provision of traffic information for travelers and transporters
  • Logistics service providers:
    Organization of freight transport
  • with the master’s degree that builds on the bachelor’s degree, also scientific institutions:
    development and testing of new methods and technologies
