The research-oriented master’s course in Spanish Culture and European Identity / Cultura y pensamiento europeo: tradición y pervivencia, developed in cooperation with the Universidad de León, is a binational course and in its specific combination of Romance / Hispanic Studies and studies in European intellectual history both in Germany and in Spain unique. It conveys extensive knowledge on the genesis and spread of Spanish and European culture, from its roots in antiquity to the formative Christian, Jewish and Arab influences of the Middle Ages to its spread in Latin America.
Through the integrated year abroad in León, students acquire significant intercultural skills in addition to in-depth technical knowledge. The course ends with a double degree. The course is aimed at graduates who have already completed a Bachelor’s degree in Romance Studies with a focus on Hispanic Studies, as well as graduates of the Bachelor’s degree in Latin American and Ancient American Studies.
