Provenance research sees itself as cross-epoch, transdisciplinary context research. It shows the complexity of the values ??that are assigned to art and cultural goods in different societies, social constellations and also by individuals. Closely related to this is the history of private and institutional collecting.
Located in the subject of art history, the course is offered by the transdisciplinary research center on provenance research, art and cultural property protection law. Accordingly, in addition to courses in the field of art history, it also contains teaching content from the field of law and illuminates all eras and (non-) European regions. In addition, specialist knowledge on the translocation of art and cultural goods, the history of collecting and the art market, and legal issues relating to art trade and the protection of cultural property is deepened. In addition, the students are enabled to independently apply the knowledge they have acquired in the context of complex (art) historical and legal questions.
Museums / preservation of monuments / art trade (galleries, auction houses), exhibitions (curator activities, tours, lending), culture (institutions, municipal cultural offices), insurance (appraisals), science (science management, teaching / research at universities / research institutions), public relations
