The subjects of German, English, Romance studies and the department for intercultural communication and multilingualism research are involved in the interdisciplinary master’s degree in linguistics. It is aimed at graduates of linguistic and philological bachelor's programs. The course is research-oriented and covers the entire area of ??synchronous and diachronic linguistics.

The focus is on promoting the ability to combine linguistic theory formation and empirical methods and to apply them in an interdisciplinary manner. The training of competencies that enable the independent development and implementation of research projects is specifically promoted. The modules are usually offered by all participating philologies. Thus, depending on their language skills, students have the opportunity to study linguistics across language and subject boundaries.

The aim of the course is to give students access to linguistic research on an international level. In addition to the technical orientation, the master’s degree opens up perspectives in various professional fields such as language teaching and media communication.
