The focus of German studies is the research of German-language literature, which is examined in its literary, cultural-historical and media dimensions from its beginnings to the present, as well as the examination of the German language from its early language levels to today's contemporary language. German studies in Bonn sees itself as a broadly based subject that is oriented towards cultural studies and media studies and also works in an interdisciplinary manner with other subjects.
The master’s degree in German Studies provides a primarily research-oriented education: Current research questions are integrated into the courses, and the students are also involved in ongoing research projects and thus familiarized with scientific forms of organization and presentation. The course offers a wide range of options: Students choose a profile as a personal focus for their studies and can thus pursue their individual interests and inclinations. You can choose from the profiles Medieval Studies, Linguistics and Modern German Literature Studies.
