Overview

The English Studies course deals with linguistic, literary and cultural studies in English-speaking countries. The course provides a well-founded overview of classical and modern English-language literature and culture, as well as current topics in structural and applied linguistics.

In terms of content, regional focus is placed on Great Britain, North America and the post-colonial world. Due to the interdisciplinary orientation, the examination of language, literature and culture always includes historical, philosophical, political and media science issues. In addition to the specialist courses, the degree program offers in-depth practical language modules in areas such as grammar, vocabulary and linguistic expression.

From the second year of study, individual focus areas can be set using Advanced and Intensive Modules. Profiling can take place in English linguistics and communication as well as in North American studies or British and post-colonial literary and cultural studies.
