Overview

Overview

The subsidiary subject Mongolian consists of three language modules (Mongolian I-III). The practice and application-oriented language training begins in the first semester with the teaching of modern Mongolian (Chalcha). The students acquire skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing as well as in intercultural communication. From the third semester onwards, the classical script is also taught. In all courses, students practice using language acquisition aids and working out contrasting examples. Early on in their studies, students have the ability to express themselves orally and in writing on familiar topics, which enable them to cope with a Mongolian-speaking environment.

In language teaching, the Institute for Oriental and Asian Studies pays attention to a balanced relationship between pragmatic-communicative competence and linguistic basics. The students acquire culturally sensitive, communicative and media skills that enable them to understand the phenomena and dynamics of the Mongolian cultural area and to relate them to interdisciplinary topics.
