The Latin American and Ancient American Studies course provides extensive knowledge of Latin American cultures, from pre-Hispanic indigenous societies to contemporary literatures and cultural processes. It consists of a combination of ancient American / ethnology and Hispanic studies that is unique in the German university landscape.

During the course, methods of scientific work are imparted on the one hand, and relevant specialist knowledge and current theories in the field of ethnology, cultural, linguistic and literary studies are learned and discussed on the other. Depending on the individual area of ??interest, individual areas can also be examined in more detail in the further course of the course.

In addition to the in-depth language practice courses in Spanish, introductions to the Amerindic languages ??of Latin America (Náhuatl, Yucatec Maya, K'iche 'Maya and Quechua) can be taken. In addition, internships and stays abroad are recommended for professional orientation or further deepening of Spanish skills.
