The subject German, comparative literature and cultural studies is made up of the areas of German, comparative and Scandinavian studies.

German studies are divided into three subject areas: Modern German Literature, German Medieval Studies and German Linguistics. While modern German literary studies researches German-language literature and its history from the early modern period to the present, German medieval studies is devoted to the beginnings of German literature in the Middle Ages and the early modern period. German linguistics deals with research into the German language of the present and its history.

Comparative literature is characterized by the crossing of borders between languages ??and cultures as well as between literature and other arts / media forms (e.g. painting, film). The contents of the comparative literature are literatures in their transnational, intercultural and intermedial contexts.

Scandinavian Studies explores the cultures, history, literatures and languages ??of the Scandinavian countries. The students acquire language skills in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish.

Subject areas, questions, methods and topics can be networked in an interdisciplinary manner during the course. Students thus receive a very broad and well-founded professional training and at the same time have the opportunity to specialize and develop a profile individually thanks to the extensive range of courses.
