The subject German as a second and foreign language qualifies students for all fields of language teaching both at home and abroad. It imparts knowledge and skills that enable teaching with adult language learners, such as newly immigrated or refugee people, but also for teaching young people and children.

In a combination of theoretical and practical components, the course conveys knowledge of models and methods of second language acquisition research, the basics of German linguistics and the teaching of literature, culture and regional studies. On the other hand, the students are introduced to teaching in two modules, which focus on the didactics of DaZ / DaF lessons. Practical relevance is also created through insights into possible occupational fields as well as an accompanied internship phase, which serves to test and further develop acquired competencies in teaching practice and to reflect on one's own teaching activities.
