The M.Sc. Visual Computing deepens the skills and knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's degree about the systematic processing of information, especially in the area of ??digital images and visual models. This specialized master’s course focuses on the generation, processing and analysis of digital images , covering the entire spectrum from image acquisition and the extraction of visual models from images to the synthesis of realistic images from models. Therefore, within the elective areas of study, the subjects computer graphics , computer vision and machine thinking , the increasing interdependence and synthesis achievements of both of the aforementioned areas (integrated methods) as well as the concrete applications of image informatics are deepened.

Due to the numerous options for specialization and options, the course follows the very personal preferences of the students. There is also the possibility of completing part of the course at a university abroad.

The computer science is now used in research and development play an increasingly important role, since the design and optimization of work processes is no longer conceivable without software solutions. As a result, the opportunities for computer scientists on the job market are promising: the demand for them is increasing. While most of them are in permanent employment, there are also numerous self-employed. They find employment in companies in almost all sectors, in public administration and in research. There they develop, program and modify hardware and software programs, especially in connection with complex information, communication and control systems.

Graduates of the special master’s degree in the Visual Computing sub-area of computer science can look to a diverse and extensive job market. Perspectives arise in various areas of industry, business and research. Image IT specialists, for example, visualize 2D and 3D models from digital data for medical technology, the automotive industry and other industrial production, but also for the media industry. The creation of hardware-related software systems is used in the work area with autonomous systems. The processing of visual information also plays an important role in virtual engineering (e.g. for CAD systems). With the Darmstadt-basedFraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research (IGD) is a world-leading institution for applied research in the field of visual computing in close contact with the TU Darmstadt and the computer science department.

It is therefore important, in addition to studying, to gather your own practical experience in relevant institutions at an early stage, to prove your general suitability for practice and to establish contacts. The prospect of a good position is increased by the willingness to move professionally, also abroad. A good command of the English language is particularly recommended if you have an international focus.
