Networked computer elements can be found in almost all technical products today. Due to this "embedding" of software in hardware, the classic boundaries between electrical engineering and computer science are becoming increasingly obsolete. The interdisciplinary subject Information System Technology (iST) is located at this interface. Its subject is the construction of complex microprocessor-controlled information systems that require a coordinated interaction of hardware and software development. Electrical communications engineering is no longer conceivable without mastering the great complexity of software, while at the same time the physical and electrotechnical laws of their operational environment are becoming more and more important for the planning of software systems.
Since the complex interaction of hardware and software, the understanding, research and application of which forms the core of the Master of Science Information Systems Technology course , requires engineers with interdisciplinary training, graduates of the course have numerous career prospects. For example, they find employment in vehicle or mechanical engineering, in entertainment electronics as well as in the household appliance industry, in the areas of automation, communication, medical or aerospace technology. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of their degree program, they are particularly capable of performing control and coordination tasks.
