The musical culture pillar is based on a cooperation between the TU Darmstadt and the Darmstadt Academy for Music. It includes courses offered by the Institute for Philosophy at the TU Darmstadt as well as the Academy for Tonkunst and combines artistic practice, society-related reflection, music theory as well as aesthetics and music philosophy.

The Bachelor of Arts degree program in the form of Joint Bachelor of Arts in subjects X and Y combines two equally weighted different subject pillars, of which at least one must be chosen from the range of subjects in Faculty 02 Social and History.

Selectable subjects for the first subject pillar :

Digital philology; German Studies; History; Musical culture; Philosophy; Political science; Sociology.

Selectable subjects for the second subject pillar :

Digital philology; German Studies; History; Computer science; Musical culture; Philosophy; Political science; Sociology; Sports science; Economics.

A disciplinary specialization is only required as part of the Master of Arts

Graduates of the course can work in different professional fields. For example, activities as a music teacher at private or municipal music schools, but also work for musical institutions and institutes as well as in exhibition, art, culture or event management are conceivable.

Depending on which second sub-subject the students have decided on in the Joint Bachelor of Arts, they can also work in school or textbooks, in publishing houses (e.g. in editing), in radio, television and newspaper editorial offices, in PR and advertising agencies, in libraries and archives, in international organizations and in the cultural field. With additional business management qualifications, they can also work in commercial enterprises (e.g. in sales and marketing or in human resources).

It is therefore important, in addition to studying, to gather your own practical experience in relevant institutions at an early stage, to prove your general suitability for practice and to establish contacts. The prospect of a good position is increased by the willingness to move professionally, also abroad. A good command of the English language is particularly recommended if you have an international focus.
