In the Master’s degree in Physical Geography, you will acquire in-depth knowledge of the subject of geography, which will qualify you for a professional activity in the field of interdisciplinary environmental sciences. You will acquire scientific and methodological skills and knowledge to be able to describe, analyze, explain, evaluate and forecast structures and functions of landscapes, ecosystem interactions and material flows in ecosystems of different dimensions with regard to their structure, structure and dynamics in space.


An individual focus can be selected from the areas of climate impact research, environmental information systems, environmental hydrology, applied soil science or biodiversity research.


The skills and knowledge acquired in the geographical specialist and method modules are supplemented and deepened by external elective and profile modules as well as by an external professional or research internship that additionally strengthens professional orientation and can be used in the following professional fields in particular:

  • Environmental management and resource planning, 
  • Development cooperation,
  • Geomanagement,
  • Cartographic information systems,
  • Geographic informatics,
  • Geographic remote sensing.


Proof of completion of a relevant bachelor's degree in the field of geography, geoecology, geomatics, environmental sciences (or thematically similar courses) or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign professional university degree.

If this is not yet available, a transcript of records with a calculated average grade based on at least 80% of the credit points required for the Bachelor's degree can be submitted.

The professional bachelor's degree or comparable university degree must have at least 90 credit points in methodological and technical basics of geography including its auxiliary sciences (cartography, geoinformatics, statistics).

The examination board can combine the admission with the condition that additional study achievements and / or examinations of a maximum of 30 credit points are achieved. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.


Knowledge of English , level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Direct admission is granted if the admission requirements are fully met.
