The Master in “Economics and Institutions / Volkswirtschaftslehre” systematically prepares students for work experience as an economist. All important fields of micro and macroeconomics, economic policy and institutional economics are the subject of courses. What is so far unique in Germany is the systematic consideration of the economic analysis of institutions for the economy.

Through a mixture of statistical principles and practical economic applications, the students acquire important professional skills.

Proof of the completion of a relevant bachelor's degree in an economic or social science field or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign professional university degree.

In the completed bachelor's degree, basic economic knowledge must be acquired and at least 90 credit points in economics subjects and the associated auxiliary sciences that convey methodological skills (e.g. mathematics for economists, statistics) must have been achieved.

Language level C1

The language level C1 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??of the Council of Europe" - competent use of the language - is proven by fulfilling one of the following criteria:

  • School reports proving that the foreign language has passed at least 5 years up to the completion of university entrance qualifying with good or very good performance Since level C1 is usually not reached with the school leaving certificate, certificates with good or very good grades are checked individually.

If you cannot prove the language level from your school lessons, the following alternatives also apply:

  • University degree in a course in which the required foreign language is a focus.
  • Teaching at a secondary educational institution until graduation in which the language to be demonstrated is the primary language of instruction.
  • or one of the following language certificates (comparable certificates are subject to a case-by-case examination):

Possible job profiles for graduates of the Master’s degree in Economics and Institutions can be found in the economic departments of banks, insurance companies and industrial companies, international organizations, economic research institutes, public administration, ministries, associations and regulatory authorities.

Furthermore, the M.Sc. carefully prepare the graduates for a further academic career, in particular for a doctorate.
