In the political science master’s program, you will acquire in-depth specialist knowledge of political science as well as the ability to work independently and responsibly on political science issues in a wide range of political science professional fields. The master’s course gains its specific profile from an integrated scientific perspective, ie

  • from the combination of different theoretical and methodological approaches in political science,
  • from the connection of international and transnational political perspectives with internal structural conflicts, democracy problems and transformation perspectives of modern societies,
  • from the inclusion of social and economic problem constellations in the political science study orientation and
  • from the systematic integration of gender perspectives.

The insight into the interrelationships of social and political life should give you qualifications that open up the possibility of a professional activity in different political science professional fields or that qualify you for research or a doctoral degree.


The master’s degree in Political Science offers you the opportunity to study the fields of "International and Transnational Politics", "Structural Social Conflicts and Conflict Dynamics" as well as "Democracy Theory, Research on Democracy and Critical Research on Dominance" with the focus on "Analysis and Comparison in and of World Regions", "Gender- To study research "or" political economy ".



Proof of completion of a political or social science bachelor's degree or evidence of a comparable domestic or foreign university degree with an overall rating of at least 3.0. If this is not yet available, a transcript of records with a calculated average grade based on at least 80% of the credit points required for the Bachelor's degree can be submitted.

A comparable domestic or foreign vocational university degree is available if political or social science components amounting to at least 120 credit points are proven.

In addition, knowledge of methods of empirical political science to the extent of 12 credit points must be available. The methodological knowledge must include basic knowledge of SPSS (univariate and bivariate analyzes). The latter can also be acquired through catch-up courses up to the end of the 2nd semester.

The examination board can combine the admission with the condition that additional study achievements and / or examinations of a maximum of 30 credit points are achieved. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.

Proof of course-specific knowledge and skills:

Knowledge of English at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Approval mode:

Direct admission is granted if the admission requirements are fully met.
