The aim of the interdisciplinary master's degree in peace and conflict research is to provide you with analytical and practical qualifications in the field of peace and conflict research. This includes in particular the ability to analyze conflicts according to their subject matter, their course, their causes and actors and to develop perspectives for pacifying, regulating or resolving conflicts. The contents of the course are political conflicts in global society. In the courses, methods such as role and simulation games, scenario development, small group work, workshops and staging dominate. The study program includes, among other things, an international internship, English-language events, interdisciplinary research seminars and a transdisciplinary exercise on conflict management.

A special focus of the master’s program is on dealing with and resolving conflicts peacefully.
The focus is on potentially dangerous conflicts that take place in or between states. The international and global environment of these conflicts plays a special role.

Proof of course-specific knowledge and skills:

Knowledge of English, level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Admission can be linked to the condition that additional course work and / or examinations of a maximum of 30 credit points are provided. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.

If the required knowledge is not available, admission can be granted on the condition that the knowledge can be proven by re-registration in the 2nd semester. In these cases, registration is subject to change.

The study of peace and conflict research enables you to work in a wide range of professional fields. The practical connection of the course, the didactic concept with its intensive exchange between lecturers and students as well as intensive advice from the lecturers guarantee a high level of professional and professional training. Depending on the individual focus, e.g. through the choice of international internship, through conflict analyzes according to special perspectives, the master’s thesis, etc., practicing a profession is conceivable in the following fields, for example:

  • Science (university, research institutions, especially in interdisciplinary and international research contexts);
  • Civil conflict management (e.g. non-governmental organizations);
  • State institutions and organizations (e.g. in the field of conflict management);
  • Conflict mediation / conflict management; Policy advice, organizational advice;
  • Media (including publishers) and public relations;
  • Economy (industry, business, self-employed / private services).
