Overview

The master's degree "Media and Cultural Practice: History, Aesthetics, Theory" is designed for students who already have a professional university degree or a relevant bachelor's degree and who have a special interest in the in-depth, research-oriented penetration of modern media cultures and who have an above-average talent for audiovisual impressions bring.

Media studies in this sense sees itself as a historical-hermeneutical discipline from a cultural-historical and cultural-scientific perspective. The focus is on the audiovisual media of film, television as well as digital media and multimedia configurations. It deals with the conditions in which these media came into being, with their production and reception as specific forms of sociocultural practice as well as the theoretical explanations and attributions that have accompanied and currently accompany the history of these media.

The focus of the course is on the history, aesthetics and theory of the media, which opens up a unique, broad spectrum of research for you.

aims

With its research-oriented orientation, this course not only serves to train and promote your own specialist junior staff. Above all, it also conveys the competence to apply scientifically sound knowledge and methods in the diverse areas of activity of media production and distribution and thus to reflect media practice in terms of its social and cultural significance: be it in the dramaturgy of broadcasters or production companies, in which Program planning and design of broadcasters, in media journalism, in cultural and public relations, in media consulting, in the broad sector of educational work or in media science research and teaching.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Proof of completion of a relevant bachelor's degree in media studies or evidence of a comparable domestic or foreign professional university degree with a high proportion of specialist media science modules (at least 60 CP).

If proof of the first degree is not yet available, a transcript of records with a calculated average grade based on at least 80% of the credit points required for the bachelor's degree can be submitted.

The examination board can combine the admission with the condition that additional study achievements and / or examinations of a maximum of 30 credit points are achieved. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.
