The aim of the modularized four-semester master’s course in “History” is to expand historical knowledge in various areas of historical studies, to focus non-exclusively on a historical epoch and to perfect the application of scientific methods and subject-specific working methods.
Your personal epoch-making focus can be in
of ancient history,
of medieval history,
of recent and newest history or
of economic and social history.
After successfully completing your master’s degree in history, you will not find a fixed professional field. Use your potential and develop fields of activity using your acquired competencies, skills and experience.

The Marburg master’s course in history has a decidedly research-oriented focus and also prepares students for a scientific career. Such an academic career requires a doctorate after completing the master’s degree .
Proof of completion of a relevant bachelor's degree in one of the following areas:
Linguistics or cultural studies
or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign professional university degree.
At least 24 credit points in the field of historical disciplines and the associated basic or auxiliary sciences must be proven.
The examination board can combine the admission with the condition that additional study achievements and / or examinations of a maximum of 12 credit points are achieved. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.
Knowledge of two modern foreign languages, including English and French or Italian or Spanish or
Knowledge of English and functional knowledge of Latin
Modern foreign languages must be proven at level B1 . The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??applies.
