The aim of the multidisciplinary and international master’s course in Adventure and Experience Education is to impart secured specialist knowledge and methods that focus on the systematic analysis of the phenomena of adventure and experience in their social framework, their significance for human ontogenesis, its potential for educational processes and on relate to the European dimension of the pedagogical approach. In addition, the students should be enabled to organize adventure and experience pedagogical support and educational processes and interventions as well as competent safety behavior.


The main focus of the Master’s course in Adventure and Experience Education in Marburg is the scientific examination of the phenomena of adventure and experience and their educational content. It takes place in theoretical events such as seminars and lectures, which are supplemented by adventurous practical units.


Graduates of the master’s course in Adventure and Experience Education can work in the following areas, for example:

Youth welfare : Probably the broadest field of activity for adventure and experience pedagogical qualification profiles is represented by the diverse areas of responsibility of youth welfare. Above all, there are: open youth work, homes, child and youth psychiatry, individual educational measures as stand or travel projects, group work, community work, day-care centers , School social work.

School : For the concept of the all-day school, teachers with an adventure education qualification profile are of great interest. The same applies to types of school - such as country school homes - which also take action-oriented forms of learning into account in their work.

Outdoor training : Since the personnel development concepts of companies such as Deutsche Bank or Deutsche Bahn AG now take outdoor training into account, fields of activity have opened up in companies or in consulting agencies that offer and carry out appropriate training.

University : It is to be expected that more and more universities, technical colleges and technical colleges will develop courses and training courses in adventure and adventure education. This opens up a further field of activity for academically trained adventure and experience educators.

Independence : The "outdoor area" represents a market that will probably continue to grow over the next few years. On the basis of the acquired qualification profile, graduates can also offer their skills in the various areas as independent entrepreneurs or join one of the existing companies.

Abroad: The qualification profile with its international study components also opens up the possibility of applying for relevant positions abroad.



A completed bachelor's degree or comparable domestic or foreign professional university degree in the fields of educational sciences, pedagogy, movement and sports science, social work or outdoor education. In addition, applicants with other bachelor's degrees can also be admitted, provided that the methodological and technical basics of educational science to the extent of at least 45 credit points can be proven.

Admission can be linked to the condition that additional course work and / or examination work amounting to a maximum of 30 credit points must be provided. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.

Knowledge of the methods of empirical social research to the extent of at least 10 CP. However, the proof can be submitted up to the end of the lecture period of the second semester.

Due to the special sport motor requirements in the course of study, specific sport motor requirements must be proven for admission to the course. This is done through proof of the health test for fitness for sport and physical resilience (medical certificate).
