The bachelor's degree in biology combines a broad basic biological education with the option of independent and responsible study design, which allows either early specialization or generalization of the course content. In the first 2.5 semesters, compulsory core modules provide a broad overview of the disciplines of biology as well as basic knowledge in chemistry and physics. Up to the 6th semester, students should deepen four biological disciplines in specialist modules of their choice. The course offers students the opportunity to combine biological teaching modules with modules from other scientific and humanities departments and thus give the biology course a very personal profile, which can be practice-related and job-related or geared towards the advanced master's degree programs. By choosing the specialist and specialization modules, you can set your personal priorities during your studies. It is possible either to combine modules from different subject areas or to concentrate on one of the four main research areas represented in the department: "Molecular and cellular biology of microorganisms", "Molecular cell biology and plant physiology", "Development and physiology of animals" and "Organismic Biology".
This enables you to customize your course of study. The profile modules are an interesting addition, as they enable you to integrate offers from other subjects into your studies.
