The “Human Geography and Sustainability” master’s degree is a postgraduate degree with a professional qualification. It enables students to further develop their specialist knowledge in the field of sustainability . The focus is on critical sociological analyzes of existing sustainability concepts, methods of sustainability assessment and practical solutions.

The master’s degree is firmly anchored in human geography , but at the same time promotes inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation. Possible areas of content include urban and transport planning, environmental and climate protection as well as climate adaptation, tourism, the real estate sector and various areas of sustainability. Excursions and project seminars create ideal conditions for an in-depth exchange with actors from society, politics, business and science. Due to its special geographical location, the growing city of Munich offers a variety of opportunities to examine and better understand social changes in the direction of sustainability.

Programme Structure

The two-year master’s course has a modular structure, with each module representing a thematically and methodically closed teaching unit. The credit points are awarded according to the ECTS.The courses are held partly in German and partly in English .

Entry Requirement

Professionally qualifying degree (at least 6 semesters) in geography or a related subject OR in the 6th semester of a bachelor's degree in geography with 130 ECTS points already achieved, participation in the aptitude test.
