The investigation of natural phenomena such as floods, earthquakes, tsunamis or landslides, as well as technical applications such as geothermal energy, are of high social relevance and integral areas of work of geoscientists and geophysicists. Research in this area is now highly interdisciplinary. The geophysics sub-course is designed to provide students from relevant related fields, such as physics, mathematics, statistics or computer science, with basic knowledge, skills and techniques from the field of geophysics, in order to prepare them for a later professional and / or scientific collaboration in interdisciplinary Prepare teams.

Bachelor graduates of the Geosciences course, which is the “big brother” of this part of the course, can start working directly in various fields of activity, such as data collection and analysis, raw material extraction and processing. In addition, geoscientists are active in the field of laboratory analyzes in environmental consulting and management or in process or product development. Geoscientists can work as appraisers and experts, in restoration / conservation or in information and knowledge management. Graduates of the new partial course seem to be excellently suited to take on roles of a similar nature.
