In the age of digitization and networking, informatics has become a fundamental science: it is hard to imagine business, research, medicine, mobility and communication without informatics. The systematic and automatic processing of information underlies all of these applications. The bachelor's degree therefore covers all core areas of computer science: theoretical computer science, which deals with the complexity, decidability and modeling of questions; practical computer science that develops solution concepts; and computer engineering, which deals with hardware.
In the first year of study you will be equipped with knowledge in the fields of practical, theoretical and technical computer science as well as mathematics. You will also learn to familiarize yourself with other areas independently. Therefore, all courses in the first two semesters are compulsory .
From the third semester onwards, you will deepen the basic knowledge acquired in the first semesters. You can also customize your studies by choosing from various core modules . For example, you will find events on computer organization, the basics of information security or human-computer interaction. These events are complemented by two projects: the programming project and the bachelor's research project . In these projects you work in a team on a topic of your own choosing.
The University of Stuttgart also offers a master’s degree in computer science.
Computer science graduates are currently in great demand. This opens up a wide range of activities: The classic IT companies and currently the automotive and electrical industries have the greatest need, but careers are also opening up in the fields of research and development, media, health, education or public service.
