Overview

As a branch of economics, business administration (BWL) is a special interdisciplinary form of the social sciences. In it, economic activity is viewed from the company's individual economic perspective. Business administration is thus differentiated from economics, which deals with macroeconomic processes. In the bachelor's degree in business administration at the University of Potsdam, a high scientific level is consistently dovetailed with a sound application-oriented content.

The bachelor's degree in business administration is designed as a single-subject bachelor's degree. It conveys a comprehensive spectrum of basic and advanced business management knowledge in areas such as bookkeeping, accounting, corporate finance, marketing, organization, personnel management, start-up and innovation management and business informatics, as well as in the areas of mathematics and statistics as the central methodological fundamentals. It is aimed at students who clearly focus their professional orientation on business administration. In this aspect, this course differs from the two-subject Bachelor in Business Administrationin which the specific lies in the combination and coordination of business administration with an almost equally important second subject. A contour-giving element in the single-subject business administration course is also the integrated profile subject economics and business law.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Studying business administration requires good analytical thinking and abstraction skills. In some areas of business administration, complex relationships are analyzed with the help of mathematics and its methods. Students should therefore have an affinity for mathematics. Since the bachelor's degree program prepares for possible international use and English texts are used in teaching, you should also have a good command of written and spoken English.

CAREER PROSPECTS

The aim of the bachelor's degree is to offer students an initial, high-quality and well-founded business education with universal professional opportunities. After completing the degree, you will have an overview of the interrelationships of the subject of business administration and will be able to apply basic methods and knowledge to solve practical problems. In addition, they have acquired the specialist knowledge necessary for the early transition to professional practice in a comprehensive spectrum of business administration.

The framework conditions of business management change very quickly in practice (e.g. with regard to the legal, market-related or technological environment). In addition, new and individual customer requests and expectations as well as related challenges are constantly developing. In a scientifically sound and practice-oriented environment, our graduates acquire the ability to independently develop a wide variety of solution strategies and present them convincingly.

Graduates' subsequent areas of activity are diverse: they are in demand in all public and private companies and organizations, e.g. in industry and trade, in the banking industry, in insurance, in business and personnel consultancies or other service areas, in public administrations (e.g. in Municipalities or in state and federal ministries), in non-profit institutions, in international organizations or in the areas of media, culture and politics.
