The teaching post-related bachelor's degree in the subject of general science includes the scientific and didactic basics of general science and a related subject (social sciences, natural sciences, lifestyle, ethics, religion and economics, work and technology).As part of the specialist training, courses on selected social, historical, scientific, geographical and technical aspects are offered. The courses are dedicated to the topics of natural phenomena; Work and economy, designed living spaces, people living together, time and history.The course also conveys the basics of the didactics of general teaching. The latter includes, among other things, the objectives, tasks, content and methods of the subject, as well as dealing with the media. In didactic one-day internships, students also gain initial experience in planning, designing and analyzing material lessons.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The bachelor's degree is modular. Within the modules, the course content is thematically summarized in different study and teaching forms. A fixed number of credit points as well as certain study and examination achievements must be achieved in each module.The teaching-related bachelor's degree in the subject of material teaching has a special feature in its specific study organization in the form of so-called "reference subjects". The technical and didactic fundamentals of the subject teaching are to be studied together with those of a reference subject, so that use in the respective subject teaching of grades 5 and 6 is possible. This reference subject has a scope of 9 credit points (CP) in the bachelor's degree. When choosing a reference subject, you should note that you are bound by your decision during the bachelor’s degree when choosing a reference subject for a subsequent master’s degree, which is a mandatory prerequisite for becoming a teacher. At the latest with the completion of the module "Scientific basics of subject teaching"

  • The reference subjects social sciences and lifestyle-ethics-religious studies (LER), which study German or English as an additional subject in addition to subject teaching.
  • The reference subjects natural sciences and business-technology-work (WAT) are only intended for those students who study mathematics as a further subject in addition to subject teaching.

If you switch from the other subject German or English to mathematics or vice versa, the reference subjects are based on the newly selected subject.The teaching-related bachelor's degree basically comprises a total of 180 credit points (CP). The study of the subject of science is involved with 33 credit points. The subject subject teaching with a reference subject is made up of the components shown in the overview below.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The appeal of general science lessons lies in its versatility: natural and technological phenomena are just as much a part of its content as the discovery of spaces, human coexistence or historical topics. If you later want to enthusiastically introduce children to such aspects of their living environment, you should be open-minded yourself to these areas and the corresponding technical and didactic basics.

Working as a teacher in elementary schools involves other, in particular educational, challenges in addition to specialist teaching, which you should look forward to with pleasure. In this context, it can be helpful for your decision to study and for the study itself if you have already gained experience in dealing with children.

CAREER PROSPECTS

The aim of the bachelor's degree in the subject teaching is to impart knowledge and skills in the technical and subject-didactic area so that you are able to enable children to acquire the prerequisites for opening up their everyday reality as part of the subject teaching. In particular, you will acquire the ability

  • to analyze selected structures of the social, technical and natural environment with appropriate scientific methods and to use them as a technical basis for teaching,
  • to examine the social, technical and natural environment for childlike contexts and to uncover possibilities for knowledge-based action for children
  • to apply subject-related didactic knowledge and methodological instruments for the creation of a teaching that promotes and develops the child's personality and learning

With the teacher training bachelor's degree, the academic degree of the Bachelor of Education is acquired. This represents a first professional academic degree, which, however, does not yet qualify for the assumption of a teaching post. Before you can achieve your dream job as a teacher, you still have to complete a master’s degree and preparatory service. Due to the professional and pedagogical skills acquired during the course, however, this bachelor's degree can also offer career prospects outside of the teaching profession.
