The teaching post-related bachelor's degree in mathematics for the primary level contains the technical and didactic basics of mathematics teaching.

The scientific basics initially include the areas of arithmetic and geometry. In addition, the course imparts the knowledge and skills required later to work with mathematical tasks in the classroom. The focus is on solving and constructing student tasks independently.

The didactic training is dedicated in particular to the design of teaching and learning processes in the subject of mathematics at primary schools as well as individual didactic concepts, e.g. with a view to the mathematical beginning lessons, the development of stochastic ways of thinking and working or project work. In didactic day internships, the theoretical knowledge acquired can be applied and deepened in the planning, design and analysis of mathematics lessons.


The bachelor's degree is modular. Within the modules, the course content is thematically summarized in different study and teaching forms. A fixed number of credit points as well as certain study and examination achievements must be achieved in each module.

The teaching-related bachelor's degree comprises a total of 180 credit points (CP). The study of mathematics for the primary level teacher is included with 33 credit points (CP).

You should have a good knowledge of mathematics and a certain enthusiasm for this science and its possible applications, as well as be ready to deal with mathematical issues and tasks at a technical level. It is also an advantage if you are also interested in mathematics-didactic questions.

Working as a teacher in elementary schools involves other, in particular educational, challenges in addition to specialist teaching, which you should look forward to with pleasure. In this context, it can be helpful for your decision to study and for the study itself if you have already gained experience in dealing with children. 


The aim of the bachelor's degree in mathematics is to acquire scientific and didactic skills that enable students to plan, implement and reflect on didactically and mathematically-based specialist teaching in grades 1 to 6, taking into account general and individual learning prerequisites and learning processes. For the efficient interlinking of subject-related and subject-related didactic parts of the course, both are usually integrated into appropriate courses and taught in relation to one another. The students learn to present mathematical facts adequately, to structure them by specifying basic questions and to make references to school mathematics.

The students know the general educational content of mathematical content and methods and the social relevance and can relate this to the goals and content of mathematics lessons in primary school.

You will learn mathematics-didactic concepts in order to design motivating mathematics lessons that meet the individual needs of the students, to promote and evaluate individual learning progress and to reflect on the lessons that have been carried out.

The students can also analyze and plan mathematics lessons with heterogeneous learning groups on the basis of didactic concepts and make them on the basis of first reflected experiences.

In the bachelor's degree for the teaching profession for the primary level in mathematics, the students learn the basic technical and didactic facts, methods and competencies that enable them to continue studying in the master’s degree for the teaching profession for the primary level in the subject mathematics.

With the teacher training bachelor's degree, the academic degree of the Bachelor of Education is acquired. This represents a first professional academic degree, which, however, does not yet qualify for the assumption of a teaching post. A master’s degree and preparatory service have to be completed before becoming a teacher. Due to the professional and pedagogical skills acquired during the course, however, this bachelor's degree can also offer career prospects outside of the teaching profession.
