Chemical knowledge is based in particular on the development of thought structures and concepts in connection with intensive experimental work. Everyday questions led through basic research to the development of new substances or substances with modified properties that are useful, for example, for the elimination of environmental damage. The sustainable use of resources and the development of environmentally friendly production processes are currently gaining in importance. The millennium problem of climate change can only be solved with the help of chemical research.In this context, as a future teacher, you should be able to design lifelike and relevant chemistry lessons on the basis of profound chemical specialist knowledge as well as pedagogical, didactic and experimental skills and to sensitize your students to everyday chemical problems.
The first step in the course is a solid and balanced basic education in chemistry. Knowledge is expanded through an elective module. The practical relevance to school is particularly reflected in the didactic training through the close link between theory and practice. The students acquire the necessary knowledge from subject didactics for successful teaching. You will develop skills and abilities for planning, designing and reflecting on chemistry lessons and will be able to carry out experiments safely and effectively. You will also learn how to use digital media in a meaningful way in the planning and implementation of lessons.Practical school studies during the semester are integrated into the course. They offer the opportunity to apply acquired knowledge in the planning, design and reflection of lessons and to gain insights into the future professional field. In addition, the chemistry didactics school laboratory offers you another platform to gather teaching experience with schoolchildren in a “protected environment”.


The course is modular. Within the modules, the course content is thematized and discussed in different study and teaching forms. A fixed number of credit points as well as certain study and examination achievements must be achieved in each module.our studies begin with a solid and balanced basic education in chemistry. An elective module can be used to expand and apply this knowledge. The didactic training lays the foundations through the close connection of theory and practice in order to classify experiments in the teaching methodology correctly and to carry them out safely and effectively. You will develop skills and abilities for the effective planning, design and reflection of chemistry classes, also using digital media.

The teaching-related bachelor's degree comprises a total of 180 credit points (CP). The subject chemistry accounts for 69 credit points (CP). At the end of the bachelor’s degree, a bachelor’s thesis must be completed.

If you enjoy exploring and questioning chemical phenomena, working with passion and having a basic understanding of mathematics and natural sciences, then you are well equipped to successfully master the requirements of a chemistry teacher training course. For the work as a teacher, it is also important that you bring content to the learners in a professional and understandable way and that you are able to face the daily demands of working with students with joy and self-motivation.

It is therefore helpful if you already have experience in dealing with children and adolescents.
When you start your studies, you have the opportunity to check and consolidate your mathematical knowledge and skills in a bridging course offered by the Institute of Chemistry before starting your studies. In the module mathematics for chemistry teacher training, knowledge is deepened and applied.

In general, it is helpful for studying if you have a command of German and English.



During your studies you will be able to design realistic and scientifically sound chemistry lessons. You will acquire the necessary chemical specialist knowledge and knowledge of subject-specific methods of imparting knowledge and develop indispensable experimental skills and abilities for chemistry teachers. With the skills you have developed, you will be able to recognize and evaluate connections between nature - chemistry - chemical industry - environment and to take them increasingly independently into account when planning your lesson.With the teacher training bachelor's degree you acquire the academic degree of “Bachelor of Education”. This represents a first professional academic degree, but does not entitle you to teach at the school.Due to the professional, pedagogical, psychological and didactic skills acquired during the course, however, this bachelor's degree can also open up career prospects outside of the teaching profession.
