Overview

The Interdisciplinary Russian Studies bachelor's degree is so far unique in Germany. In particular, its interdisciplinary and international orientation contributes to this unique selling point. The course is divided into the areas of language acquisition, Russian studies as well as political, administrative and economic science.

The language acquisition area provides comprehensive language training with special attention to technical language in politics, administration and business. In addition, there are courses in Russian Studies, which are devoted to Russian literature, culture and (optionally) linguistics. In the first two years of study, general fundamentals of politics, administration and economics are also taught, which are also part of the bachelor's degree programs in politics and administration or economics. In the third year of study there is a stronger focus on the political and economic system of Russia.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The Interdisciplinary Russian Studies bachelor's degree is designed as a single-subject bachelor's degree. The bachelor's degree has a modular structure. Within the modules, the course content is thematically summarized in different study and teaching forms. A fixed number of credit points as well as certain study and examination achievements must be achieved in each module.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The Interdisciplinary Russian Studies bachelor's degree is aimed at prospective students with a high level of commitment who are enthusiastic about the scientific examination of the Russian language, culture and literature as well as political and economic structures. You should have an open-minded attitude towards new challenges, approach problems in a solution-oriented manner and be prepared to spend a longer period of time abroad.

The acquisition of Russian and the deepening of existing language skills are an essential part of the course. That is why you should enjoy learning languages. Since learning Russian is very labor-intensive, it takes a lot of time and energy to teach Russian - especially if you have no previous knowledge of Russian. It is possible to start studying without knowledge of Russian, but by the end of the first year of study you must have a knowledge of Russian at level B2 of the European Framework of Reference.

For those who do not yet have this language skills, we offer a two-semester beginners course. In addition, we recommend attending a language course in Russia between the first and second semester. Participation in such a course is mandatory for students without prior knowledge of Russian. The University of Potsdam will be happy to help you apply for the relevant scholarships.
