The teaching-related bachelor's degree in music for the primary level includes content from musicology and didactics as well as practical instrumental and vocal training.Subject of the musicological training are, among other things, the development of music in the epochs of European music history from the Middle Ages to the modern age as well as the analysis of musical works. In the context of the courses on music didactics, the goals, content and methods of music teaching in primary level are discussed in particular. Didactic day internships also enable first reflective experiences in the design of lessons. The didactic training is also geared towards the ability to use elementary music pedagogy approaches to address different types of learners and to perceive and reflect on the mutual interpenetration of artistic and pedagogical aspects.The training on the instrument takes place on the guitar or the piano. Through one-to-one tuition, the students can perfect their technical playing skills with a view to performance pieces of various genres and time styles, the accompaniment of songs and improvisation, and they can prepare themselves for practical music-making in schools. The vocal training, on the other hand, is dedicated to training the speaking and singing voice, enables you to recite songs in the right style and provides basic knowledge of vocal physiology. This training content is supplemented by percussion, ensemble management and children's voice training.


The bachelor's degree is modular. Within the modules, the course content is thematically summarized in different study and teaching forms. A fixed number of credit points as well as certain study and examination achievements must be achieved in each module.The teaching-related bachelor's degree comprises a total of 180 credit points (CP). The music course for the primary level is included with 33 credit points. The following overview gives an overview of the course content.

The admission requirement for the teaching degree-related bachelor's degree in music for the primary level is the passing of an aptitude test . Musical memory, hearing, musical sensitivity, vocal prerequisites and previous instrumental knowledge (guitar or piano) are tested and the opportunity to work in music education is given. Proof of a reliable singing and speaking voice must also be provided by means of a phoniatric suitability assessment.

In addition to giving specialist lessons, working as a teacher in elementary schools is associated with other challenges, especially educational challenges, which you should look forward to with pleasure. In addition to proving your professional suitability, it can therefore be helpful if you have already gained initial experience in dealing with children.


The teaching-related bachelor's degree in music provides you with:

  • musical-practical skills as the basis for one's own knowledge of music and for music-pedagogical work with children,
  • Basic knowledge of musicology and the ability to apply it in the design of music lessons,
  • music didactic knowledge and awareness of the objectives, content and procedures of music teaching at primary level,
  • Insights into subject-specific and interdisciplinary musical learning in the context of aesthetic education in primary school.

With the teacher training bachelor's degree, the academic degree of the Bachelor of Education is acquired. This represents a first professional academic degree, which, however, does not yet qualify for the assumption of a teaching post. Before you can achieve your dream job as a teacher, you still have to complete a master’s degree and preparatory service. Due to the professional and pedagogical skills acquired during the course, however, this bachelor's degree can also offer career prospects outside of the teaching profession.
