The course in Transcultural Studies / Cultural Anthropology focuses on local and transnational cultural processes in Europe, Latin America and Southeast Asia from a historical and contemporary perspective. Knowledge of the empirical cultural analysis of everyday life worlds of globalized societies is deepened and the handling of ethnographic and historical methods based on knowledge of cultural theory is trained. The students are enabled to independently research regions in their complex local systems and their cultural diversity against the background of supraregional, translocal and global networks. Furthermore, they learn to clarify questions about everyday cultural processes and performances in an interdisciplinary and analytical way and to prepare research results in a communication-oriented manner.
The focus is on the practical orientation of the course (including through close cooperation with regional museums and through a teaching research project) as well as the possibility of creating a thematic focus.
