The overarching goal of the master’s course is to acquire further knowledge and skills that enable you to practice the profession of meteorologist or geophysicist. In the case of meteorology, based on the bachelor's degree, these include in the broadest sense the ability to consider, analyze and predict environmental changes in or with the atmosphere from a mathematical and scientific point of view. In the case of geophysics, this is essentially the ability to consider mathematically and scientifically and analyze physical processes and phenomena inside the earth's body (e.g. earthquakes). Applied geophysics focuses on the ability to use geophysical measurement methods for the exploration, evaluation and use of georesources (e.g. deposits,

In particular, the course teaches skills to independently solve constantly changing problems, to react flexibly to changing challenges and to innovate. On the one hand, the students acquire extensive, special knowledge about the diverse phenomena in the earth's body and its atmosphere, on the other hand, they learn to master the methods for forecasting future developments of processes. Graduates are able to implement and develop methods and procedures for observation and - especially in meteorology - for forecasting weather and climate.
