In the Nature Conservation and Landscape Ecology degree program, the socially defined goals of nature conservation are placed in the light of new landscape-ecological research. The focus is on imparting nature conservation know-how, as well as the critical further development of nature conservation concepts against the background of rapid and constant global changes. Both regional and international aspects are in focus.
The students are involved in research projects and learn to understand nature conservation-relevant landscape-ecological relationships and to classify them scientifically. Methodically, in addition to tried and tested approaches, new approaches are also broken, such as B. in numerical modeling for the derivation of scenarios or in the use of digital image processing in nature conservation monitoring. Processes in the landscape are evaluated against the background of societal negotiation processes. On the basis of the scientific knowledge imparted in the master’s course, graduates are able to develop and implement innovative solutions for nature conservation.
Research and teaching at universities, scientific work at research centers (e.g. UFZ, FZJü), planning / application in offices and authorities (e.g. BfN, BMU, UBA, middle and lower landscape authorities), planning / application in environmental and planning offices, scientific policy advice ( e.g. UN organizations, EU, national governments, NGOs), other nature conservation-oriented institutions (national park administrations, biological stations, nature conservation centers)
