The subject of geography in the Master of Education course is dedicated to current research topics from sub-areas such as geomorphology, soil science, hydrogeography, climatic geography and landscape ecology, population, settlement, social and economic geography as well as geographic development research.
While the focus of the Bachelor’s program is on the two specialist subjects, the Master of Education’s focus is more on educational sciences and subject didactics. The modules of subject didactics deal with current research priorities in geography didactics both theoretically and with concrete practical relevance. This includes topics such as teaching expertise, individual learning requirements such as student interests and preconcepts. Basic concepts such as global learning, subject-specific working methods - e.g. learning on site - as well as the acquisition of skills - e.g. spatial orientation and system competence - complement the curriculum. In addition, an excursion module is offered, which serves the original encounter with selected geographic issues and regional examples.
Two subjects are studied in the teaching post for grammar schools and comprehensive schools. In addition to geography, the students also take a second subject and the educational sciences. The practical semester is a central component of the course.
