The North American Studies master’s program is dedicated to the study of the United States of America and Canada and offers an innovative, transdisciplinary research space for cultural studies theories and methods, transatlantic relations and topics of globalization.
The North American Studies program explores North American literatures and cultures from their colonial beginnings to contemporary literary and cultural practices. Based on the faculty's expertise and institutional partnerships, the program also focuses on North American history, politics, and economics. In the course of study, questions of methodology, modernity and postmodernism, poetry and poetics, gender studies, Afro-American studies, popular cultures and the intersection of culture and economy are examined in particular.
Visiting scholars regularly visit the University of Bonn - especially from Canada - to participate in teaching.
