The concept of the Master’s degree in Medieval Studies is based on the knowledge that, especially in the humanities subjects, dealing with the Middle Ages is the basic requirement for a deeper understanding of modern developments. The preoccupation with medieval history and culture as well as the languages ??and literatures of the Middle Ages should therefore not only open up the various facets of a bygone era, but must also be understood as the study of a key era for the foundation of the modern world.
The integration of the interdisciplinary course in the research activities of the Bonn Medieval Center (BMZ) ensures a research-related education of the students. The aim of supporting one's own research is also served by the connection of the course to the teaching unit Greek and Latin Philology, which ensures the examination of the central language of medieval culture. In this way, students acquire the ability to critically examine the research situation and to continue working on scientific questions in the context of medieval studies. In addition, key skills relevant to the job, such as developing and solving one's own problems, are taught during the course.
