The Applied Linguistics master’s program represents an interdisciplinary field between research and practice that deals with language, communication in society, media, organizations, companies and politics. Core modules are intercultural communication, second language acquisition, language processing and translation studies. In these modules z. B. Aspects of interpersonal communication, regional and social differences in language behavior, (dis) politeness in different cultures, pragmatic competence, writing in a second language and cognitive processes in translation are dealt with in more detail. In addition, teaching and research support is also provided in the areas of pragmatics, discourse analysis, genre analysis, sociolinguistics, dialectology, cognitive linguistics,

Students are enabled to design and carry out their own research projects. For this purpose, linguistic research institutions such as the Research Center for Empirical Pragmatics can be used, in which a large number of research tools such as recording devices, language corpora and software for data acquisition, processing and analysis are available.

Entry Requirement

 

  • Examination regulations (legally binding information)
  • University degree (domestic or foreign) in a relevant subject
  • English skills (English language practice modules (at least 18 ECTS) OR equivalent language skills at level GeR C1)
  • Specific modules: Modules from the subject of English studies with a volume of at least 36 ECTS Specific modules: Linguistics (18 ECTS) OR general and applied linguistics (18 ECTS)
