Molecular biomedicine deals with the molecular and cell-biological principles of life and their pathological changes. The interdisciplinary course links methods and the molecular understanding of the natural sciences with current medical content. The aim is to recognize and understand the mechanisms and functions of complex life processes on the molecular level as well as pathologically altered body functions. This is also the basis for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches that are intended to combat human diseases.
First, professional skills in the basics of natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics) and medicine (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry) are taught. Building on this, there is a focus and deepening in selected specialist areas (e.g. developmental biology, human genetics, immunobiology and microbiology, toxicology or pathobiochemistry).
Theoretical and practical training takes place simultaneously throughout the course and is accompanied by support and advice from a mentor.
