The two-subject course in Asian and Islamic Art History teaches methods and theories in order to learn about the breadth of art and architecture; the advancing globalization of the art market as well as the transcultural influencing of the fine arts, to reflect scientifically well-founded and to gain new knowledge about it It is an object-related science that classifies objects in their cultural, social, religious and political context. The course deals with objects from mostly originally religious contexts, as well as with secular and religious architecture.
The main course content is the imparting of a well-founded knowledge and understanding of the scientific foundations of Asian and Islamic art history, learning to write scholarly, an overview of art objects, styles and buildings of different geographical regions and their developments as well as sensitization for transcultural issues. This also includes an understanding of the functions and meanings of objects and architecture, an introduction to the topic of the expanded concept of art, an overview of current scientific and social discussions in the subject of art history and related disciplines, as well as the ability to exchange information, ideas and solutions.
