In order to understand the interrelationships of the complex world of tomorrow, a holistic view is necessary. The bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering therefore offers in-depth basic training in which mathematics and mechanics are supplemented by materials science, mechatronics, computer-aided design, thermodynamics and many other areas. Because only those who have mastered their craft completely can deal with complex issues. Nowadays, tools of the trade also include digitization, teamwork and responsible behavior. We have therefore integrated corresponding elements into the bachelor's degree, such as the team projects “Introduction to Mechanical Engineering” in the 1st and the “Product Design Project” in the 5th semester.
In the elective area there is the possibility of putting together a very personal combination of in-depth subjects from almost 30 different events. From digitization to space travel, the whole fascination of mechanical engineering can be experienced at TU Darmstadt.
After you have laid a solid foundation for yourself in the Bachelor, you can pursue your own individual study plan or a focus of your choice with the greatest possible freedom in the Master.

You mainly take on the development, design, planning and construction of technical systems and machines . Accordingly, they mainly work in mechanical engineering, plant and vehicle construction or in their supplier companies or in engineering offices.
Depending on the focus of their studies, they deal with vehicle technology, production technology, energy technology, fluid mechanics, aerospace technology, product development or mechatronics . This list only reflects a selection of the many possibilities.
Employers for graduates in mechanical engineering can be, for example, industrial groups, engine manufacturers, monitoring and testing institutions, engineering offices, consulting companies or the automotive industry.
But other than the classic career paths are also conceivable for mechanical engineers. Examples of this would be technology journalism or technology communication .
It is therefore important, in addition to studying, to gather your own practical experience in relevant institutions at an early stage, to prove your general suitability for practice and to establish contacts. The prospect of a good position is increased by the willingness to move professionally, also abroad. A good command of the English language is particularly recommended if you have an international focus.
