The M.Sc. degree course "Networked Production Engineering" (NPE) offers technology-related qualifications in a highly interdisciplinary Master's program. Through three individual tracks, students can set their focus on "Additive Manufacturing," "Smart Factory," or "E-Mobility Production."

In addition, a mobility window is an integral part of each study track: In the third semester, students choose between either an industrial internship for practical experience or further specialization through in-depth course work. The six-month master thesis concludes the four-semester study program to be awarded an M.Sc. degree from RWTH Aachen University.

Programme Structure

Building "Smart Factories" means networking all plants, products and processes in a self-organizing factory. This is a central component of "Industry 4.0" and will be used in numerous sectors such as chemistry, automotive and electrical engineering. Within these networked production processes, qualified graduates play an essential role: They act as problem solvers, experienced experts, and decision-makers.

The track “Smart Factory” prepares students to navigate Industry-4.0 driven production: They learn about trendsetting topics such as model-based systems engineering, and control production processes in real time with 5G technology. They also get to know agile production and progressive automation. An NPE graduate with a specialization in smart factories has the chance to become an expert in smart technology.

  • First university degree, required qualifications according to the examination regulations
  • Proficiency in English

Career Prospects

As a Networked Production Engineer you will:

  • establish the flexible, digital and networked production of the future
  • provide quantitative analytical methods for process analysis
  • design, direct, optimize, and monitor production processes
  • develop and enhance serial production lines and assembly systems
  • improve manufacturing performance and identify process bottlenecks
  • develop innovative production machines and assembly systems for state-of-the-art manufacturing planning
