Do you have a bachelor's degree in humanities or social sciences, especially Middle East studies, and would you like to deal scientifically with current Arab politics, society and culture? Then you have come to the right place with our interdisciplinary master’s course! It combines the disciplines of political, cultural and literary studies with regional knowledge of the Arab world.
In Marburg you will receive training in research at the interfaces between politics, society and culture in the Near and Middle East and North Africa and comprehensive training in the Arabic language. By integrating peace and conflict research as well as religious studies, the spectrum of transregional perspectives and the relevant methodology is additionally expanded.
The general admission requirement for the master’s course is proof of a relevant bachelor’s course in the humanities and social sciences, in particular Middle Eastern studies, or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign professional university degree.
Knowledge of the Arabic language proven by at least 30 CP at a German or foreign university or at a language institute of a university or by equivalent evidence (e.g. a university entrance qualification acquired at a school whose main language of instruction is Arabic). A written entrance examination to prove sufficient written language skills of Arabic can be made a condition.
In addition, proof of sufficient knowledge of English at at least level B2 of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” must be provided.
The examination board can combine the admission with the condition that additional study achievements and / or examinations of a maximum of 12 credit points are achieved. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.
