Overview

The English-language master’s program "Economics of the Middle East" (EMEA) is designed as a combination of two components that are unique in this form: economic theories and methods combined with a detailed examination of the economies of the "Middle East and North Africa" ??(MENA) Region and in particular the Arab states.

The modules offered as part of the course cover, on the one hand, the central subject areas of a master’s program in economics (micro and macroeconomics, econometrics, specialized courses). On the other hand, different economic issues relating to the countries of the MENA region are dealt with in detail.

Focus areas
The master’s program “Economics of the Middle East” is divided into the study areas “Introduction to the MENA Region”, “Economic Analysis”, “MENA Economics”, “Economics Electives”, “Interdisciplinary Electives” and “Master's Thesis”.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Evidence of the completion of a relevant bachelor's degree in economics or evidence of a comparable domestic or foreign professional university degree.

Basic economic knowledge must be acquired in the bachelor's degree qualifying for a profession or in comparable university degrees, ie at least 72 credit points (ECTS) in economic subjects and the associated auxiliary sciences (e.g. mathematics for economists, statistics). At least 18 credit points in economics and up to 12 credit points in the associated auxiliary sciences must have been achieved.

Proof of knowledge of the English language according to language level C1 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??of the Council of Europe"

CAREER PROSPECTS

 

The course systematically prepares its participants for professional practice as economic experts with a focus on the countries of the MENA region, which takes into account the existing need for well-trained economists with region-specific knowledge.

Possible job profiles for graduates can be found in international companies with a business focus in the MENA region, in the economic departments of banks, insurance companies and industrial companies, in international organizations and research institutes, in public administration, ministries and associations as well as regulatory authorities. The course particularly qualifies you for an activity with reference to countries in the MENA region. Furthermore, the M.Sc. prepares graduates for a further academic career, in particular for a doctorate.
