The project-oriented course in the master’s course “Data Science” consists of deepening and specializations in computer science, e.g. in the areas of data mining, algorithms or data management as well as in the mathematical area of ??the course from one of the main subjects “Analytics” or “Scientific Computing”.
The aim is, in particular, to intensify independent academic work.
In addition to various in-depth modules from areas of IT, e.g. B. in the areas of machine learning, software development of scalable systems and big data technology, which can be put together according to individual interests, you choose a mathematical focus in the area of ??statistical data analysis (analytics) or scientific computing (scientific computing).
Proof of completion of a specific bachelor's degree in "Data Science" or evidence of a comparable domestic or foreign university degree qualifying for a profession. A bachelor's degree in mathematics or computer science entitles the holder to access if at least 90 credit points have been completed in modules in which competencies at the level of the basic and compulsory modules of the Marburg bachelor's degree in data science have been acquired. Of these, 72 CP should be allocated to modules that correspond to the goals and competencies of the following modules of the Marburg Bachelor's degree in Data Science: Object-oriented programming, algorithms and data structures, system software and computer communication, as well as efficient algorithms, machine learning, basics of linear algebra, basics of analysis and foundations of higher mathematics.
The university degree qualifying for a profession must be passed with an overall grade of 7.9 grade points or better or at least a grade of 3.0 (according to § 28 of the General Provisions).
If this is not yet available, a transcript of records with a calculated average grade based on at least 80% of the credit points required for the Bachelor's degree can be submitted.
The examination board can combine the admission with the condition that additional study achievements and / or examinations of a maximum of 30 credit points are achieved. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.
Knowledge of English at level B2 is recommended .
Direct admission is granted if the admission requirements are fully met.
The completion of the master's degree in "Data Science" enables you to work independently and to manage projects in industry, business and scientific or public institutions, in which scalable methods and techniques for the analysis of large and heterogeneous data as well as the simulation in scientific, economic or technical fields Problems are used.
A particularly successful master’s degree also gives you access to a doctorate - primarily in the fields of computer science and applied mathematics.
