This “Philosophy” master’s program, which is based on current research, is aimed at students who have completed a bachelor’s degree (especially philosophy in Marburg) or an equivalent degree with above-average success.
They should not only deepen and expand philosophical knowledge and thinking methods, but should also be introduced to the current topics and working methods of the academic subject in research and teaching or actively participate in research and teaching with the support of the teachers. Last but not least, the philosophical practice at the Philipps University of Marburg, which is both historically and systematically well-known, ensures that students are qualified for professional activities, especially in the academic field, as well as for doctorates.
A focus is made possible through options in basic, advanced and practical modules, whereby the Marburg research profile with its focus on Kant research and the Enlightenment (understood equally as a historical epoch and systematic style of thinking) offers special possibilities.
There is still a noticeable discrepancy between studying and working in philosophy. The profession of philosopher as a university lecturer is only open to a few. In addition to this perspective of the graduates on a career as a university professor, however, a number of professional fields have meanwhile emerged whose requirement profiles must be reconciled with the competency profile of the master’s course in philosophy. In detail these are:
Adult education, work in specialist publishers, newspapers, magazines, radio and television, philosophical advice, librarian, administrative specialist in the higher service, organizational, consulting and management activities in government-administrative, cultural and business areas.
The general admission requirement for the master’s course is proof of completion of any bachelor’s course or proof of a comparable domestic or foreign professional university degree with a grade of at least 2.5.
If proof of the first degree is not yet available, a transcript of records with a calculated average grade based on at least 80% of the credit points required for the bachelor's degree can be submitted.
The examination board can combine the admission with the condition that additional study achievements and / or examinations of a maximum of 30 credit points are achieved. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.
Two foreign languages. Must be proven
