Overview

The master's degree in cultural and social anthropology should enable you to empirically document, analyze and understand cultural and social characteristics and connections between (non-) European cultures.

The master’s degree in cultural and social anthropology has a research-oriented profile that places particular emphasis on independent scientific work.

Focus

Regional specializations in Latin America (Amazonia) as well as thematic emphases in the field of conflict anthropology, anthropology of nature as well as visual and material culture are possible.

The course also offers you a high level of interdisciplinarity and a strong focus on the present thanks to good cooperation with other research institutions at the university, such as the centers for conflict research, gender studies or interdisciplinary research on religion. With a large selection of minor subjects (e.g. psychology, geography, international development studies, law, peace and conflict research, sociology, Indology / Tibetology, gender studies) and the high degree of flexibility of the course, you can design your studies according to your individual interests.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

University degree from a degree with a focus on ethnology / cultural and social anthropology or a comparable domestic or foreign professional university degree.

If proof of the first degree is not yet available, a transcript of records with a calculated average grade based on at least 80% of the credit points required for the bachelor's degree can be submitted.

The examination board can combine the admission with the condition that additional study achievements and / or examinations of a maximum of 30 credit points are achieved. In this case, the course can be extended accordingly.

 

Two (usually modern) foreign languages. Must be proven

  • a foreign language at level B 2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ??(alternatively: knowledge of Latin or ancient Greek at the level of the Latinum or the Graecum , to be proven e.g. by the Abitur certificate), as well as
  • Another foreign language at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
