During the first three semesters, lectures within the introductory modules provide orientation knowledge about art from late antiquity to the present day. There are also introductions to the use of visual arts, architecture, sources and art theory. Attending modules in the area of ??case studies and art-historical systematics promotes the analysis of individual examples and expands the methodological spectrum. Here accents can be set within art history by choosing modules and thematically changing events.
Building on a solid, subject-specific basic knowledge, the students learn to apply scientific methods and findings independently. In addition to the complexity of the individual sciences, they are instructed in an interdisciplinary manner to gain knowledge and problem-solving of complex issues. The bachelor's degree in Art History therefore offers a large proportion of elective modules from another subject and devotes particular care to this combination option. The spectrum includes over 20 subjects.

Knowledge of two foreign languages, including English, French or Italian . A foreign language must be proven at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The other foreign language must be proven at level A2 .
If knowledge of Latin is asserted instead of one of the modern foreign languages, this must be proven at the level of the Latinum by means of an Abitur certificate or otherwise.
If the required foreign language skills can only be proven at level A2 instead of level B1 or only at level A1 instead of level A2 when applying for the study place , admission is possible on condition that the required level is proven by the re-registration for the third semester .
