The new bachelor's degree in chemistry and biochemistry at LMU Munich has existed since 2001. In the first four semesters, it provides for a joint basic training course for chemists and biochemists, which is carried out in an interdisciplinary manner by three faculties. In the fifth and sixth semesters, there is an orientation course in which the students choose focus areas and write their bachelor thesis.
Biochemistry forms a central pillar of the curriculum of the Bachelor in Chemistry and Biochemistry. In addition to training in classical chemistry, an initial overview of the fundamental areas of biochemistry is given in the first four semesters; Topics include important molecules and macromolecules in biochemistry and metabolism. In addition, methods of biochemistry are presented and practiced as part of a lecture and a basic internship. The 5th and 6th semesters serve for further orientation. Lectures, e.g. on cellular biochemistry, molecular genetics, and participation in the advanced biochemical internship as well as a corresponding thematic orientation of the bachelor thesis make it possible to focus on biochemistry
The 3-year program is divided into 4 semesters of basic study and 2 semesters of orientation study . Orienting towards biochemistry , students can choose between two modules, biochemistry (module 4) and biology (module 5) .
In the following, all Bachelor courses at the Department of Biochemistry are listed in chronological order, their content briefly described and provided with further links (lecture dates and content, registrations for internships and exams).
